The Oakton Masters Rowing Club is seeking new members as we start our 8th season. We are looking for experienced and novice rowers and coxswains. We practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6:45-8:30pm) and Saturday mornings (7:30-10am) at Sandy Run Park, on the beautiful Occoquan river. We participate in several sprints (1000m) and head races (5000m) from June through early November. We offer a fun, safe, and instructive opportunity to row. Please contact email@example.com if you are interested. See below for our annual Learn to Row Day – a great opportunity to see if rowing is for you.
The Oakton Masters Rowing Club will it’s host annual Learn to Row Day on Saturday, June 4th at 10am. Come learn about the sport of Crew and try your hand at sweep rowing. This 2 hour event will be held at the Sandy Run regional Park (near the town of Occoquan Virginia). See the Sandy Run Regional Park link under “important links” for directions. Please send Adam Schmidt an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to secure a spot.
Please plan on wearing compression shorts or some other tight fitting shorts to prevent clothing from getting caught in the rails of the boat. Bring water and sunscreen. A change of clothing is a good idea in case you get wet during the on the water part of the learn-to-row.
Our head coach Tom Bennett will provide an overview of the basics of rowing on land before having our participants try out rowing in 8 seat crew shells. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and must sign a waiver before heading out on the water. We will host the event rain or shine – but will cancel if there any thunderstorms in the area.
