Learn to Row Day on June 3rd /Learn to Row Program

The Oakton Masters Rowing Club will it’s host annual Learn to Row Day on Saturday, June 3rd at 10am.  Come learn about the sport of Crew and try your hand at sweep rowing.  This 2 hour event will be held at the Sandy Run regional Park (near the town of Occoquan Virginia).  See the Sandy Run Regional Park link under “important links” for directions.  Please send an email to recruiting@oaktonmastersrowing.org to secure a spot.

Please plan on wearing compression shorts or some other tight fitting shorts to prevent clothing from getting caught in the rails of the boat.  Bring water and sunscreen.  A change of clothing is a good idea in case you get wet during the on the water part of the learn-to-row.

Our head coach Tom Bennett will provide an overview of the basics of rowing on land before having our participants try out rowing in 8 seat crew shells.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age and must sign a waiver before heading out on the water.  We will host the event rain or shine – but will cancel if there any thunderstorms in the area.

Following the Learn to Row Day, we will offer a 5 week Learn to Row program.

  • Dedicated coached new rower practices. Boats will be fielded with several experienced rowers.
  • Wednesday nights 6:45-8:30 PM 6/7 – 7/5
  • Cost $50.  If rowers decide to continue with the club, then the learn to row fee will be credited to the full season fee
