OMRC Rowers Compete in the Head of the Charles

OMRC rowers competed in three events in the 2014 Head of the Charles Regatta. Heather coxed the OMRC Women’s Senior Master (50+) coxed four entry, with Shafer stroking, Karin in 3 seat, Wendy in 2 seat and Bo in the bow. The women put in a strong effort, passing several boats in the process.

Michael stroked the NVRC Senior Master Men’s coxed four, which was coxed by Kristie Colorado. Damian rowed in 3 seat with Frank in 2 seat and Adam rowing in the bow. The men felt good about their row and Kristie got every ounce of energy out of the boat.

Tom Bennett rowed in 6 seat in the NVRC entry in the men’s Senior Master eights. The NVRC men’s 8+ was just a few seconds off finishing in the top half of the event.

All enjoyed the great rowing conditions, weather, venue and watching the competition. Karin Udler watched her son Burt finish 6th rowing in the bow of the UVA Alumni men’s 8. Many also watched Dane Underwood finish 11th as the bowman in the GMU entry in the Club 4 race. On Sunday, some of us watched former standout Oakton rower Daphne Martschenko stroke the Cambridge University women’s Championship eight in the fastest women’s event in the regatta.

We thank NVRC for providing our men opportunities to compete at the Head of the Charles this year.
